VERNON, NJ - Once again both the girl's and boy's Sparta High School Ski team continue to impress. In the final league race of the year last week, the girls finished first. This was the second time in two weeks that the girls finished first. It was also the first time leading in a league race.
Rachel Stote finished first on the team and fourth overall, matching her best finish of the year. Right behind her, Juliana Kaminski finished sixth her best slalom finish of the year. Shannon Kaminski finished ninth and Margaret Zembrzuska finished 22nd, completing the team time.
The boys continue to ski fast slalom runs with a fourth place finish, matching their best finish of the year. Rex Anderson finished first on the team and 13th overall. Justin Allan, Chester Sears, and Ryan Smetana completed the team time of 6:13.27 and all finished in the top 30.
Both girls and boys teams completed their regular season and advanced to the states final races on February 23 and 26.
The JV girls team had all four girls finish within the top 15 showing top prospects for years to come. Valeryia Shumskays finished seventh, Serena Calafati finished ninth, Lauren Shellenberg finished tenth and Lauren Zanetakos finished in twelfth place.
Andrew Brininger finished first for the boy JV team and 21st overall.
