SPARTA, NJ - After an eventful week of racing for the Sparta High School Ski team, both the boys and girls teams continue to improve their results.  The varsity teams raced in the exciting dual slalom on Saturday, Feb 7.  The girls took first place in this event and the boys finished sixth.  

In the event Shannon Kaminski and Justin Allan finished first on the team. They then moved on to the sudden death round where they competed against the best racers from each school.  

In the second Slalom race for the year, the girls moved up one spot and took second place.  Rachel Stote finished first on the team and fourth overall.  Juliana Kaminski, Caitlyn Mcgrath, and Margaret Zembrzusk all finished in the top 15 and completed the team time of 5:34.23.  Freshman Hanna Newbold made the step up to varsity finishing 20th overall and earning her first NJSIRA points.

The boys’ varsity team finished fourth overall with a team time of 6:24.81.  Justin Allan led the team with a 16th place finish.  Behind him Chester Sears, Ryan Smetana, and Jared Kish rounded out the boys’ team time.  

Tyler Milway battled to finish first on the Boy's JV team and 15th overall.  Valeryia Shumskays finished first for the girls’ JV team and second overall in a difficult field of racers.
