SPARTA, NJ – Sparta Girls soccer lost to Randolph 5-2. It was the Spartan’s Pink Game, pairing up with other Sparta girls teams this week to raise money for breast cancer research.
Both of Sparta’s goals came from Kelly Carolan. She brought her team back from an early 2-0 deficit to have a tie going into the second half. That was all Sparta could do while Randolph was able to find the net three more times in the second half.
Carolan said, “I thought we worked hard throughout the whole game, but we have a few things to work on. Today was a tough loss for us as a team but we need to learn from this and work hard to bounce back for the rest of our season and the two upcoming games, against Morristown and Pope John.”
Sparta’s goalkeeper Julia Flake had 11 saves and Lia Gaccione had six. Amanda Johnson and Kaitlin Mead each had an assist.
The girls will play Morristown on Thursday, hoping to better their season record that now stands at 10-2.
The Sparta Boys soccer team traveled to Randolph where they lost 7-2. Adrian Esinosa and Thomas Radon scored for Sparta both assisted by Sean McHugh.
Sparta keeper Scott Altieri had 13 saves.
The boys will host Morristown on Thursday, hoping to better their season record of 4-7-3.
