SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School's soccer teams split against Pope John; the boys won and the girls lost, 3-1. 

Carly Seeland scored the only goal against Pope John, her second of the season. 

Goalkeeper Julia Flake had nine saves in the game against Pope John and 98 for the season.

The Sparta girls are 13-3 for the season, ranked sixth in their NJSIAA division. 

For the boys, Eric DaSilva and Sean McHugh each scored a goal. McHugh also had an assist, as did Thomas Radon. McHugh has four goals and five assists for the season.  This is DaSilva’s first goal of the season. Radon has 11 goals and seven assists for the season.

Keeper Scott Altieri had one save in the Pope John game.  He has 139 saves for the season so far. 

Sparta's boys soccer record is now 5-9-3.  They will host Vernon on Tuesday, Oct 27.
