SPARTA, NJ - Seemingly pitching everyday, Paige Smith is still throwing strikes. Her complete game gave Sparta a 4-0 win over Jefferson for their seventh win of the season.
Smith had 11 strikeouts and only gave up one hit. She got to two strikes on most batters and made Jefferson's batters miss badly with two strikeouts. She was not hit hard at all but great plays were made behind her at third and second base.
Sparta got production throughout their lineup on Monday. The first inning had the top half of the lineup coming through with two runs, one via a wild pitch and another on an Erin Scott RBI single. Scott had three hard-hit singles in each of her at bats.
In the fifth inning, a line-drive double by ninth hitter, Olivia Bouma-Hannam was followed by another double leadoff hitter Isabella DeFilippis. In the next inning, a double by Anne Monroe led off the inning, She scored on a sacrifice fly by Tatiana Esteva-Ingram.
It was a complete game for coach Rich Poots' squad. Hits throughout the lineup scratched across enough runs for Paige Smith who returned the favor with another sparkling outing.
Sparta is now 7-3. They take on Pope John on Wednesday.
