WEST MILFORD, NJ – The Sparta High School softball team crushed West Milford in the semifinal round of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1 Group 3 tournament 19-6 on Tuesday.
The third seed Spartans racked up 22 hits against second seed Highlanders with 11 runs scored in the sixth inning alone.
Courtney McKenna scored career run number 100 in the game going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a walk.
Gretchen Bowie also batted 1.000 going 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, an RBI and two stolen bases. Bowie also walked twice.
Eric Scott added three runs. Tatiana Esteva-Ingram scored twice going 3-for-4 with a double and a stolen base.
Pitcher Paige Smith contributed from both sides of the plate. She went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs. Defensively Smith allowed only seven hits and a walk for the win.
Amanda Johnson had two hits with an RBI and a stolen base. Kylie Wells scored with a double and two RBIs. Anne Monroe also added an RBI to the win.
Jessica Utter scored twice, Peyton Porch went 3-for-4 with a double and Natalie Marzalik had a three run home-run for West Milford.
With a season record of 19-4 Sparta will play in the championship round on Friday, June 3 at West Essex.
