SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School softball got by Demarest 3-1, in the NJSIAA tournament quarterfinal game on Wednesday.  Playing at home the girls built on their winning record moving to 17-6.

Olivia Bouma Hannam scored twice going 2-for-4. Pitcher Paige Smith got 17 of the 21 outs on strikeouts. 

Second seed Sparta came out strong putting up two runs in the first.  The game remained 2-0 until the fifth inning when both teams were able to add one, moving the game to the 3-1 score.

Jessica Esso added the other run, taking advantage of a walk. 

Smith and Erin Scott went 3-for-3. Smith had two RBIs, Scott had the other.

Smith pitched the full seven innings giving up only two hits and one walk with 17 strikeouts. 

Sparta faces six seed Montville on Friday at home.
