SPARTA, NJ - The Sparta High School softball pitcher Paige Smith pitched a perfect game on Friday against Vernon.  The Spartans ended the game early, shutting out the Vikings 10-0.

Sparta put together 15 hits. Courtney McKenna had a home run despite Vernon’s center fielder diving effort over the outfield fence. 

Gretchen Bowie went 4 for 4 scoring twice.  McKenna went 1-3 with her two run homer in the third.

Tatiana Estevan-Ungram went 2-2 scoring twice with a single and a double.

Anne Monroe also got a double, scoring twice.  Erin Scott went 2-4 adding two to the run total. 

Smith had seven strikeouts.  After the game Smith said, “We’ve been hitting well.  We haven’t found a pitcher we can’t hit.  There is a lot of chemistry on this team.  We are friends on and off the field.”

After the game the team celebrated Bowie’s 100 hit, earned earlier this week, with flowers, balloons and cupcakes.

This brings Sparta to a 6-0 record.  They will host Jefferson on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
