CANTON, OH – The Sparta Spartans moved through round one in their quest to be named the best Youth seventh grade team in the United States, defeating Mexico 14-6 on Friday night. The game took place at the National Football League Hall of Fame facility with temperatures hovering around 15 degrees.
“The boys played their hearts out,” a parent said.
The Mexican team, having had flight complications, traveled for 35 hours from Monterrey, Mexico by bus to face the Spartans on the fridgid snow covered field.
The Spartan effort was led by Austin Fraturra’s six-yard touchdown pass as well as Matthew Schweitzer’s 40 yard run to the end zone.
Michael Favicchia’s kicks were good for two extra points.
The Spartan team continues their journey playing today against Georgia Elite in the Canton complex.
