SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta Board of Education will be conducting the search for the district’s new superintendent using an internal committee. The committee will consist of seven members, according to outgoing superintendent Dennis Tobin.
Board president Karen Scott said the committee will include:
Mohawk Avenue School principal Laura Trent
Sparta Middle School principal Michael Gregory
Sparta Education Association president Susan Sawey
Supervisor of English and Language Arts Grades 6-12 Mary Hassenplug
Sparta Board of Education members Kylen Anderson, Melva Cummings and Karen Scott
According to the district website posting for the position, the deadline for applying to Business Administrator Barbara Decker is September 12. District officials said interviews are anticipated to begin before the end of September.
“There is no preconception about who will be selected,” said Scott acknowledging it is the most important task undertaken by a board of education.
The board is also seeking applications for an interim superintendent should the first round of the search process not yield a suitable candidate, according to Tobin.
