SPARTA, NJ – The gift of life was celebrated at the Sparta Township Council meeting on Tuesday night. Sparta Mayor Gil Gibbs read a proclamation recognizing April as National Donate Life month. Kelly Bonaventure was there to accept the proclamation on behalf of the New Jersey Sharing Network.
Bonaventure shared some statistic about organ donation. “There are 120,000 in this country on the transplant waiting list, five thousand in New Jersey, 49 in Sussex County and six right here in Sparta.” She read a poem by Robert Test titled “To Remember Me,” that inspired her in high school to “go right to the DMV and become an organ donor.”
Bonaventure wanted people to know that it is not necessary to go to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission to become a donor. It can now be done online.
Bonaventure, together with members of the Sussex Warren Donate Life Group tied blue and green ribbons around the light poles on Main Street. Ed and Maureen Nelson, Dan Sarnowski, Carol Mc Ellen and Amy Cilli were there with Bonaventure representing the Sussex Warren Donate Life Group.
