NEWTON, NJ – Sparta Girls and Boys Track and Field teams competed at Wallkill Valley Regional High School on Saturday, April 11 in the Ranger Relays regional meet.

For the Girls 1200 Meter Hurdles Relay Michaela Pampin finished third, BethAnn Putnam finished fourth and Rachael Spellman finished ninth in a field of 18.

The team of Pampin and Spelman finished first in the Shuttle Hurdle.

Meghan Boryeskne finished second in the Triple Jump Relay.

Hope Nafis and Spelman finished in an eight-way tie for third in the High Jump Relay.

Katie Hastings took fourth, Boryeskne took seventh in the Long Jump Relay.  It was a crowded field with 28 competitors.

Sparta Girls took sixth in the 4x200 Meter Relay, seventh in the 1600 Sprint Medley and Distance Medley. In the Novice races the girls finished fourth in the 4 x 100 Meter Relay and fifth in the 4x200 Meter Relay.

The Sparta Girls Varsity finished with an overall ranking of fifth in the field of ten schools.

In the Boys 1200 Meter Hurdles Joe Spekhardt finished ninth with teammates Sebastian Cook and Alex Lagasca finishing 14 and 15.

The Sparta Boys 4x800 Meter Relay team finished second and 4x400 Meter Relay team finished fourth.

In the Boys Distance Medley Sparta finished second and ninth.  They took second in the Boys Meter Shuttle Hurdles.

Andrew Pondiscio took second in the Boys Long Jump Relay.  He finished sixth and Jason Rotondi finished eighth in the Triple Jump Relay.

Pondiscio also finished in a three-way tie for first in the Boys High Jump Relays.  Teammate Rotondi finished in a five-way tie for 11th with the fifth highest jump in the high jump.

In the Boys Shot Put Sparta’s Dylan May had the fifth longest throw.  Ben Davis threw the discus for fourth place with Billy Lowen placing eighth. 

In the Novice Relays Sparta took third in the Boys 4x800 and sixth in the 4x100 Meter.  Matt Smith threw for sixth place in the Novice Javelin.

The Sparta Boys Varsity finished with an overall ranking of fourth in a field of 11 schools.
