FORESTBURGH, NY - Sparta Troop 150 spent the weekend of April 8 through 10 at Forestburg Scout Reservation in Forestburgh, NY. This annual “Skills Weekend” campout is meant to introduce new scouts to some of the required scout skills for scouting and for rank advancement.
Friday evening, upon arrival at camp, the new scouts were taught by the older scouts how to properly identify a good location and pitch a tent.
Saturday the scouts were awakened by the morning revelry. After cooking breakfast they prepared for the five mile hike to Darlington Falls. At the halfway point the scouts stopped for lunch at Hope Lake. Upon arriving at Darlington Falls the scouts climbed a steep slope and chose this as a good resting point.
The day was concluded with a nice campfire and scout skits. Skits consist of each patrol acting out a comical play by the fire. When asked what he thought of the campout, new scout Collin Muller said, “It was filled with excitement.”
Sparta Troop 150 meets at 7 p.m. on Mondays at the Sparta United Methodist Church. For more information, visit spartatroop150.org or like them on facebook at Sparta Troop 150-BSA.
