SPARTA, NJ – Sparta UNICO is getting ready to hit the links for charity. The annual Memorial Golf Outing is to be held on June 8, at Wild Turkey Golf Club in Hamburg. The event, held in the memory of Jack Schaaf, will benefit the Sparta UNICO charitable goals fund.
According to Chapter President Ken Carafello, the fund “has provided grants for cancer research, sent thousands of children to camp, raised thousands of dollars for local charities, recognized many individuals throughout the nation for outstanding achievements, sponsored a mental health program, a Cooley’s anemia program, formed a partnership with the “V” Foundation for Cancer research, and annually encourage and participate in the observance of Columbus Day.”
There are many opportunities for individuals and businesses to participate. In addition to play, there are several levels of sponsorship, including various competitions such as Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin and Straightest Drive.
Registration for the day is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The format for the day will be a shotgun start beginning at 2 p.m. There will be a box lunch, beverage cart and a buffet dinner at 6 p.m. The cost is $150 for the whole day including greens fees and shared carts. For guests wishing to join the reception and dinner the cost is $50.
There will be many prizes and give-aways. Three holes have special sponsorship. Magarino Ford has sponsored two hole-in-one prizes: 2015 Ford Escape and 2015 Ford Fusion. Another hole is sponsored by Crystal Springs for a Six Star Golf Membership to Crystal Springs.
Carafello explains, “The Sparta Chapter of UNICO strives to honor, perpetuate and disseminate the culture and ethnic heritage of our Italian immigrant ancestors by supporting higher education and by educating and informing our members, local communities and our nation.”
