MADISON, NJ – The Sparta High School winter track teams competed at Drew University in the Passarelli Invitational on Friday, joining teams from 13 other schools. 

Carlie Wilson had the top high jump.  The girls shuttle hurdlers Wilson, Katie Hannan, Gianna Macones and Zoe Canzoniero finished in second place and set a new school record. 

Julia Liland finished sixth in the 55 meter dash in a field of more than 50 runners. Liland also finished fifth in the 300 meter dash, where the top runners were separated by .40 seconds.

The Sparta girls took fifth in the 4x400 meter relay race.

Jake Galluccio jumped to third place in the high jump.  Freshmen Chris Johnson took seventh in the high jump.

Brayden Jensen finished 16 in the 1000 meter run in a field of 58. 

The teams will return to Drew University on Wednesday for the Racine Invitational. 

A few Sparta track alumni stopped by to cheer the team on as well.

SPARTA, NJ – A man speeding on Route 15 faces drug charges despite having a medical marijuana card.  Muhammad Khan, 26, of Valley Stream, New York was stopped by Police Officer Erick Finley driving his red Lexus SUV 75 mph in a 55 mph zone, police report.

One Injured in Two-Family House Fire in Newton

NEWTON, NJ—One man was injured, while three others escaped unharmed when a two-family two story apartment house caught fire on Saturday.  On January 27 at around 6:26 a.m. Newton Police received a 9-1-1 call from a passerby reporting a house on fire.
