SPARTA, NJ – A Sparta woman was arrested for DWI on Route 15, after nearly hitting a police car.  On April 3 at 2 a.m. Sparta Cpl Rick Smith was running a speed trap on the southbound shoulder of Route 15 when a 2016 Chevy “drifted onto the shoulder and almost struck his vehicle,” according to police.

The car, being driven by Joseline Robles-Rivas was stopped by Cpl Smith.  He suspected the 21 year-old Sparta resident of being intoxicated, police report.

Cpl Smith had Robles-Rivas perform a series of Field Sobriety tests, which she failed.

Robles-Rivas was arrested and transported to the Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing and breath testing. 

Robles-Rivas was charged with DWI, Careless Driving, Unsafe Lane Change and Failure to Produce Registration and Insurance Card.

She was released several hours later to a sober adult, pending a court date.
