SPARTA, NJ – The staff and students at Sparta’s Alpine Elementary School raised money for the American Cancer Society last month. In advance of the eight annual Bear Run students learned about cardiovascular fitness and goal setting to prepare.
For two weeks, the students set distance goals and challenged themselves to meet them.
In recognition of cancer awareness month, the Bear Run was held on October 19. “The students and staff were ecstatic to be running for a good cause on such gorgeous weather,” Physical Education teacher Lisa Saparito.
Their efforts paid off. The school raised $2,235 for the charity.
“All of the students did a wonderful job supporting each other with kindness and good sportsmanship,” Saparito said. “The generosity and support of the Alpine community for the Bear Run each year is greatly appreciated.”
