SPARTA, NJ-Young anglers brought their parents and grandparents to the pond at Station Park on Saturday, May 5 to enjoy the annual Trout Derby. The pond was stocked with trout by the Sparta FOP. The popular event was sponsored by the Sparta Recreation Advisory committee.
Peter and Gene Donnelly were very successful; Peter caught seven fish and Gene caught six. Cole Callaghan caught two fish, Colin Gorab caught one too.
Victoria Greuter found that "bass like corn better than hot dogs."
Jack Smith, fishing with his father and grandfather caught "two fish and a stick."
Brendan Tencza was excited to explain he "caught five fish, some seaweed and a stick." He did express consternation about "how a stick could get on the hook?"
As usual the committee had asked for donations to the food pantry from participants. They had several boxes lined up on picnic tables in the pavilion.
Marley Lane was there with her boys Wesley and Bradley. She said, "They [the Recreation committee members] have been super helpful. It's really been fun."
