SPARTA, NJ - The students of the Sparta Helen Morgan School observed Memorial Day by welcoming a visitor with ties to the Civil War. The students honored the men and women who have died in service to this country through patriotic songs and readings.
"The guest of honor connected with the fourth and fifth grade children in sharing the experiences of his grandson's great, great, great grandfather," band teacher Patty Curtis said. "The man served during the Civil War as an 11-year-old. He was too young to fight but old enough to be the drummer of his regiment."
