SPARTA, NJ – The students in Courtney Weir’s third grade class won the 100th Day project challenge. The students of Alpine Elementary school marked the 100th day with classroom activities including creating an art project with 100 bottle caps.
Weir’s students drew their inspiration from recent classroom experiences. They had been reading “Tale of a Fourth Grade Nothing” by Judy Blume that featured a turtle. They also read a myth called “Earth on Turtle’s Back.”
“Some students have really been into turtles lately, so we decided to use green bottle caps to make turtles.” Weir said.
She then thought using colorful caps to create a sea theme with fish and other details.
“The class has fun making the fish with scales and googly eyes and we used all of our clear caps for the air bubbles,” Weir said.
The class gathered in the gymnasium to create their project they called Seas the Day.
