SPARTA, NJ - Shannon Huhn, a fifth grade student at Sparta’s Helen Morgan Elementary School performed at Carnegie Hall in New York on June 5. Huhn participated in her first piano competition in April and was selected to play at the famous music venue.
Huhn studies piano at the Lindeblad School of Music in Pine Brook, NJ. She studies under Wayne Weng. Weng holds degrees from The Eastman School of Muisc, Mannes College of Music, Guildhall College of Music and Drama and Yale University.
Two hundred students from Lindebald participated in the April competition. From there 15 pianists were selected. Huhn performed two songs; Allegro from Sonatina in G Major, Op. 36 No.2 by Muzio Clementi and A Slow Waltz, Op. 39 No. 23 by Dimitri B. Kabalevsky.

Huhn began her piano studies in first grade, with Joan Farrington of Sparta. Asked about her accomplishment Huhn said. "I am grateful to my teachers and my sister Eileen, who helped me prepare."
Huhn also plays Cello in the Sussex County Youth Orchestra and was selected to the NJSMA Elementary Orchestra for the past two seasons. Huhn said, in her spare time she likes to” swim, sing and play with her friends.”
