Sparta Historical Society welcomes everyone to enjoy the first day of summer, Thursday, June 21st from 2-3pm at the Sparta’s Community Gardens on the Van Kirk Homestead Museum’s grounds. This is the third and final event of our garden event series. Those attending will have a chance to ask questions about the many variety of gardens. Members are free, non-members $5.
Stroll leisurely through the grounds as Master Gardener, Lisa Chiariello, from Rutgers Extension discusses and highlights the sights and sounds of our certified butterfly garden, as well as our vibrant community garden plots. Enjoy a glass of lemonade and summer treats during your visit on the house patio! This event is totally weather dependent - there is no rain date so we are relying on the kindness of Mother Nature and her thoughtfulness after a snowy winter season. We also encourage visitors to begin the day with our short Nature Walk.
The Sparta Historical Society is located at The Van Kirk Homestead Museum at 336 Main Street (Rte. 517, use Middle School Driveway), Sparta. Final day for our spring exhibit “Life Along the Wallkill” is Sunday, June 24th with bald eagle expert, Joel Murphy, as our 2pm speaker. Our Summer Arts Exhibition, “Sussex County Views: The Art of Toni Chaplin” will open on Sunday, July 8 and will also be shown Sunday, July 22th, Sunday August 12th and Sunday, August 26th from 1-4 pm with 2pm talk.
