SPARTA, NJ – Many students of Sussex County Technical School will be wearing white on Monday after the devastating news that one of their classmates died on Sunday. Freshman Tommy Bock died from injuries sustained in a longboarding accident.
He was reported to be wearing a helmet as he rode the board on a hill in Stockholm. According to family friends Bock underwent surgery in the early morning hours on Sunday but succumbed to his injuries hours later.
“I know it’s what they always say in these situations but Tommy really was a great kid,” a parent of as Sussex Technical School student said with an emotional voice. “Everybody loved him."
That is the sentiment shared by anyone who would talk about the young student. "He was known for his beautiful smile," was said by several people who spoke about Bock. He was a wrestler and a running back on the varsity football team for the Mustangs.
Bock’s close friends have been making shirts with angel wings and his jersey number 72, according to school parents.
He played youth football for Wallkill. Tommy is survived by his father Eric Bock, his mother Diane Monks and his younger sister Alison.
A gofundme page has been established to help the family with the funeral costs.
The school will have grief counselors available for students and staff. Services for Tommy have not yet been announced.
