SPARTA, NJ – A parent went to the Sparta Police Department Headquarters on August 4 to report someone was trying to sell marijuana to his daughter. The parent had seen text messages from a 15 year-old male, to his daughter on her phone. One message said he would sell her marijuana at Ungerman Field.
Detective Sargent Terrance Mulligan and Detective Jeff McCarrick went to Ungerman Field where they saw the boy sitting on the stairs by the announcer’s booth.
They saw he had an open backpack. Both detectives saw “a zip lock bag of marijuana in plain view in the back pack,” according to a statement by the Sparta Police.
The boy admitted he was there to sell marijuana to another juvenile. He was arrested and brought to police headquarters. After his parents arrived he was processed and released to them with a court date in Family Court.
He was charged on a juvenile complain with Criminal Attempt for Attempting to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance (marijuana) in a Public Park.
