FRANKLIN, NJ – Two men were arrested by the Franklin Borough Police for narcotics distribution. Franklin detectives led an investigation that ended in the arrest of a Vernon resident and a Glenwood resident for distribution of narcotics in Franklin.
Jeffrey P Hanley, 22 years-old of Vernon, was arrested on April 15 at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Augusta Drive in Vernon. Hanley is alleged to have intended on selling marijuana on April 14 on Main Street in Franklin.
Also arrested was Christopher McDonald, 18, of Glenwood. He was charged with aiding and abetting in the distribution of a controlled dangerous substance on April 14. He is alleged to have assisted Hanley during the attempted transaction. He was arrested on Gilbert Drive in Glenwood on April 14 at about 9:50 pm.
The investigation resulted in the seizure of marijuana with a street value of several thousand dollars. Hanley was further found to be in possession of various pieces of drug paraphernalia including specific ignition sources, specifically butane to process other forms of marijuana.
Hanley was charged with possession of marijuana under five pounds, distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, distribution near school property, specifically the Franklin Elementary School and distribution near the Franklin Public Library.
McDonald is charged with aiding and abetting the distribution of a controlled dangerous substance.
Hanley was remanded to the Sussex County Jail in lieu of $35,000 bail and McDonald was remanded to the Sussex County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.
Investigation is ongoing and additional arrests may follow.
The complaints that were filed are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The charges may be presented to a grand jury for potential indictment.
