STOCKHOLM, NJ – Sparta Jefferson United added two to the win column this week squeaking one by Paramus 7-6 on Friday and defeating Howell 4-2 on Saturday.
Playing on their home ice at Skylands Ice World on Saturday Jeremy Dericks led the SJU effort with two goals. Connor Erickson had three assists.
Zach Harmel started the scoring off with a first period goal assisted by CJ Leonardo and Mike Reilly.
Dericks was assisted by Connor Erickson and Nolan Kafafian for the second goal of the game, still in the first period.
SJU would not score again until the third period with Howell finding the back of the net twice in the second period. One Rebel goal was a power play point in the final seconds of the second period.
Brendan Erickson got the winning goal early in the third, hammering away in a scrum in front of the net. He scored on the assist from his brother Connor.
Dericks’ second goal came with less than a minute left to play on Connor Erickson’s third assist.
The Howell goalie was kept busy, seeing 36 SJU shots. Sparta’s goalie Logan Hanek fended off 12.
Friday evening the SJU team traveled to Hackensack to take on the Paramus Spartans. It was a team effort with eight players earning points.
Brendan Erickson led SJU with two goals and an assist.
Mike Kwiecinski, CJ Leonardo and Zach Harmel each had a goal and two assists. Connor Erickson and Matt Redding each had a goal and an assist.
Jeremy Dericks and Mike Reilly both contributed with an assist.
In their first season as a co-op team, Sparta Jefferson United is having success, standing in second place in their division with an overall record of 9-3-2. SJU is 4-1-1 in division play.
