SPARTA, NJ - The Sparta varsity football team is 4-0 and has outscored its opponents, 177-22, this season.

But the Spartans might be meeting their match this weekend. Pope John Regional of Sparta is also undefeated, having outcsored its opponents, 183-44, in four games in 2013.

Saturday, Pope John High School will host the showdown between these two Sussex County powers at 1 p.m.

Running back Lucas Faria leads Sparta with 536 yards on 61 carries with 11 touchdowns. Faria has also caught seven passes for 122 yards and one TD. Quarterbacks Matt Seville and Anthony Argula have combined for seven passing touchdowns and just one interception for Sparta. Receiver Nick Shlala has nine catched for 120 yards and three scores. Kicker John Coleman has made three field goals and 13 extra-point kicks.

Pope John's high-powered offense is led by Sonny Abramson, who has passed for 1,004 yards already, with 14 TDs and two interceptions and a 69.4 completion percentage. Noah Brown has rushed for 208 yards on 24 carries and Nick Esposito has rushed for 165 yards on 25 carries with four TDs. Brown has also been a top target for Abramson with 18 receptions, seven for TDs. Ryan Izzo has caught 16 passes for a 16.1-yard average and two TDs.
