SPARTA, NJ - The Sparta High School football team looks to extend its record to 4-0 when the Spartans travel to Rockaway to take on Morris Hills on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Sparta is coming off a 45-0 rout of Vernon in which quarterbacks Matt Seville (138 yards) and Anthony Argula (102) combined for 240 passing yards and three touchdown passes. Lucas Faria rushed for three touchdowns and 104 yards on nine carries in the victory and Teddy Fischer caught two TD passes.
Sparta receiver Nick Shala also contributed in the passing game with four receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, Ronnie Pondiscio came up with two sacks to help secure the shutout.
Sparta, which had defeated Mount Olive, 48-7, has broken away to big early leads in each of its last two games. Against Mount Olive, Faria rushed for 63 yards and a TD and caught five passes for 99 yards and another TD.
Dillon Bray, Anthony Longo and Matt Smith each had interceptions in the triumph over Mount Olive.
This week's opponent, Morris Hills, is 1-2.
