SPARTA, NJ – Sparta Township police report the microburst storm that hit the town has caused numerous power outages, extensive damage and street closures. According to police the brunt of the storm hit East Shore Trail, West Shore Trail and Stanhope Road section of town.
According to Sparta police, JCP&L report power should be restored to Stanhope Road, Tall Oaks, Green Apple Road, Hickory Trail, Alpine Trail and Hillside around 1:45 a.m.
Sparta Police report road closures due to downed power lines:
- Hickory Trail
- Cheyenne Trail at Green Road
- West Shore Trail in the area of the 300 block
- East Shore Trail near Oak Parkway
- Alpine Trail near Mountain Drive
JCP & L has been notified and they are reported to be organizing crews. They are dealing with widespread damage throughout Sussex and Morris County, according to officials.
Sparta police encourage residents to report outages to JCP & L at 1-888-lightss and report damage to the Sparta police.
The Sparta Office of Emergency Management has activated the GOTO center at the police department on Main Street, for anyone needing to “charge devices or cool down.” Residents are asked to speak with the dispatcher for more information.
