Upon receiving the green light by the Governor for museums to open with capacity restrictions on July 2nd, the Sparta Historical Society has been working hard to make our site safe for all guests.   Being that the Van Kirk Homestead is a historic home, the Sparta Historical Society board decided to open only the changing exhibit gallery which currently houses “Thomas Alva Edison: The Person, The Vision, His Genius”.   The rest of the house, including the out buildings, will be closed to visitors, although you may stroll through our grounds to see our lovely gardens.

Current restrictions state that we are permitted four guests at a time.   We are allotting 30 minute tours by appointment only for inside the gallery with a docent.   MASKS ARE REQUIRED!!   We strongly suggest that you arrive 15 minutes prior to your reservation for your entry preparation and exhibit preview.

So how does one go about getting a reservation?    First, we will continue with our regular 2nd and 4th Sunday museum FREE open house schedule from 1-4pm beginning with Sunday, July 26, August 9 and August 23rd.   Your time slot choices are 1pm, 1:30, 2, 2:30, 3, and 3:30pm.   4 guests maximum for each time slot.   Upon arrival, expect a short VIRUS protocol with a short talk preparing for your entry into the house.  You will be accompanied by a docent who will discuss the highlights of the exhibit.   EventBrite is our ticket software.   Kindly visit our website www.vankirkmuseum.org to make your free tour reservations, picking your date and time slot.   As restrictions are further reduced, we will continue to add more tickets.

Second, If you are not able to make our Sunday open houses, you may contact us and request a personal 30 minute tour appointment.   We require two weeks prior notice since the house must be made safe prior to your appointment and a docent must be available for your chosen time.   We recommend you supplying a few date/time options. Remember 4 people max!
