As voting rights advocates, we would like to applaud Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno and Division of Elections Director Robert Giles for their tireless efforts to protect the rights of voters and to ensure that Election Day proceeds in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

Although the storm barreled through quickly and brought untold devastation to New Jersey, the state has moved just as quickly to make sure our electoral process is not one of the storm's victims.  In this election, a displaced voter may vote by provisional ballot at any polling place in the State and all eligible votes must be counted.

As New Jersey’s citizens try to piece their lives together, the state is preserving one of our most fundamental rights and ensuring the right to vote remains strong.
