WARREN, NJ - Police seized 98 pounds of marijuana, 4.5 pounds of hashish, 3 pounds of hashish candy, Psilocybin Mushrooms and $20,637 in U.S. Currency from the residence of a Warren Township man, according to a statement released by authorities on Thursday.

The street value of the marijuana seized is approximately $477,000, the Hashish approximately $112,500 and the Psilocybin mushrooms approximately $90,000, officials said.

The arrest of Kai Peter, age 35, of Warren Township, was announced Thursday by Acting Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson, Acting Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives Timothy M. Fitzgerald, Somerset County Sheriff Frank J. Provenzano and Warren Township Chief of Police William Keane.

The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force received information that on March 16, a male later identified as Peter, would be leaving his Mount Horeb Road residence in a gray Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck and he would be in possession of marijuana. At approximately 8:25 p.m. a Task Force surveillance team observed defendant Peter leave his residence and enter the pickup truck. At approximately 8:30 p.m. a motor vehicle stop was conducted in the area of King George Road, the release said.

According to officials, detectives approached the vehicle and advised defendant Peter of the ongoing narcotics investigation. Somerset County Sheriff’s Office K-9 “Apex” and his handler responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.  Subsequent to conducting an exterior sniff of the vehicle the K-9 gave a positive indication for the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. Detectives obtained a Superior Court search warrant for the defendant’s vehicle and residence. A search of the pickup truck resulted in the seizure of a yellow bag containing 8 pounds of marijuana. The bag was located on the rear seat of the vehicle.

A packaging area for the marijuana and hashish was located in the basement of the residence. From this area,detectives seized a heat sealer, heat sealer bags, scales, artificial lighting, grow pots, hygrometer, a grinder, fans,gloves, mason jars, flexible ductwork, filters and a Mossberg .22 long rifle. The residence was equipped with an air filtration system.

According to officials, Defendant Peter was charged with Possession of CDS(Marijuana)  with Intent to Distribute, 1stDegree, Possession of CDS (Hashish) with Intent to Distribute, 1st Degree, Maintaining a CDS Production Facility, 1st degree, Possession of a Firearm While Committing a CDS offense, 2nd Degree, Possession of CDS (Psilocybin Mushroom) 3rddegree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Disorderly Persons Offense.

Defendant Peter was lodged in the Somerset County Jail with bail set at $300,000 cash only by Honorable Kathy C. Qasim, J.S.C.
