SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School girls are running. The cross country track team is preparing for the fall 2017 season scheduled to begin in a couple of weeks.
Head coach Sarah Pisano is starting her firth year as head coach. They are looking to returning runners Julia Muth, Madison O’Hare and Marina O’Hare to make a strong showing for the Spartans.
“The Sparta Girls Cross Country team lost some very valuable runners with the graduation of Michaela Pampin and Payton Marcvicka along with Anna Valentine who will be spending her senior year training as a member of the 2017-2018 U.S. Snowboarding Rookie Team for Half Pipe,” Pisano said.
The team’s efforts will be bolstered by newcomer Nuala Hynes joining as a freshman.
“Nuala Hynes finished second in the country for the mile in her eighth grade year,” Pisano said.
While they may be lacking in experience, the coach points to the strong young runners together with a large team as the foundation for a good season.
“Sparta girls hope to be competitive with the top NJAC teams,” Pisano said. “We are looking forward to a great season.”
Their first competition is a Batch Meet on Wednesday, September 13 at Greystone-Central Park beginning at 4 p.m. against Jefferson High School.
