SPARTA, NJ - Coming up this August, the boys and girls high school Varsity soccer teams will be hosting a summer camp at Station Park in Sparta. From August 10 to 14 at 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day, boys and girls from K through 8th grade may attend the camp for $150.00 per player. All players that attend will receive a t-shirt, ball and great experience.
The summer camp was also held last year at Station Park, and had great success. A total of 110 kids attended, both boys and girls.
Different drills regarding footwork, shooting, dribbling, passing, goalkeeping, and both offensive and defensive strategy were run by the boys and girls Varsity teams under the supervision of Boys’ Varsity soccer coach Tim Connors and Girls’ Varsity soccer coach Jamie Barker.

In combining fun and skill, it provides children with an opportunity to stay active in the summer while developing relationships they will never forget with the older players.
“Working with little kids is such a rewarding experience,” says Ben Charles, a senior at Sparta High School on the boys Varsity soccer team, “and being able to spread the love of the game while having fun made for a truly excellent week.”
The overall goal of the camp is two things: to help develop each player’s technical abilities and tactical awareness, and for each camper to have fun. Last year’s camp saw each camper leave with a smile on his or her face.
Thomas Radon, a junior member of the Sparta Varsity soccer team, said “The team was proud to give back to the community and serve as role models for all young, aspiring soccer players.”
In a predominantly football, baseball, and lacrosse dominated township this camp is a perfect way to encourage the development of soccer at the grassroots level. In combing talented high school soccer players to enact as role models and inspirations to young ones this camp serves a huge purpose in not only giving children fun, but developing a love for the game.
