The most important decision the board of education will make next year is choosing the next permanent chief educational officer (CEO) of the district. This decision will impact not only the students and families who attend the schools, but also the entire community. The school district is the #1 employer in Sparta and the superintendent oversees over $76,000,000 in operations.

The academic reputation of our schools directly impacts property values. In September, the Board of Education issued a timeline of events for the hiring of the next leader of our district. The timeline stated that there will be community forums next month which will allow all community members to give their input on this very important decision.

Not all districts do this and I certainly don’t remember this being done when the last superintendent search was held. I know I will be participating in the community forums, as will my running mates Mike McGovern, Dr. Robert Zywicki, and Dr. Vanessa Serrano. All of our children currently attend or graduated from the Sparta Public Schools. We are truly connected to the community and fully invested in the success of ALL Spartan children. I hope you attend the forums and share your input too.
