We seem to have struck a nerve with our recent Letter to the Editor in TAPinto Sparta. Our opponents seem to have become forceful in their attempts to scare residents into voting for them in lockstep without any real thought on the matter. Apparently, questioning leadership effectiveness or policy, or having new ideas and perspectives, gets labeled as “a small, radical movement ”. Their framing it as bringing “dirty politics” to our beloved Sparta is simply an outrageous attempt to mislead our community, and to shamefully try to take away freedom of choice for voters. We are not surprised that our opponents are this startled by our campaign. To the contrary, we anticipated behavior like this.
The flagrant lies and concocted stories that were launched at our campaign are completely baseless and come across as politics as usual. We passionately believe that the voters in Sparta are more intelligent than that, and will be able to separate fact from fiction.
We are not “politicians”. We are two honest, dedicated, and caring people who have a tremendous amount of professional and volunteer skills and experience, including years within Sparta. We promise to serve you, … all of you, and we will bring a refreshing level of energy, of listening, of humility, and of leadership.
This election is about the people and future of Sparta, not our opponents’ egos. If we respond to every lie and charge that they lodge against us, we just reaffirm the poor behavior. Sparta deserves honest and honorable leadership.
