The Sparta Education Association would like to make the following statement in an effort to clarify the current situation affecting the Sparta leaning community:

The teachers, secretaries, and paraprofessionals of the Sparta Education Association have been working with an expired contract for the last eight months.  The SEA consists of dedicated and hard-working educators who give 100 percent of themselves to the students of Sparta.

Teachers routinely go above and beyond contractual hours, respond to phone calls and emails, offer extra student assistance, run unpaid before and after school clubs, and volunteer at evening district activities.

The SEA feels that all of this hard work and dedication has, for far too long, been overlooked and undervalued by the Sparta Board of Education.

Therefore, effective January 28th, the members of the SEA felt compelled to limit their availability to regular contractual hours until a fair and reasonable settlement can be reached between the SEA and the Sparta Board of Education.

We appreciate the understanding and support of the Sparta learning community.

Thank you,

Sparta Education Association
