Alzheimer’s New Jersey’s Newton Support Group meets the 4th Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. at the Newton Medical Center, Romano Conference and Education Center, Room 100, 175 High Street, Newton, NJ  07860. Contact person: Barbara Van Nortwick - 973.579.8600.

Please note: It’s best to call the contact person before attending the first time. Also, please call the number listed for the group before attending as our support groups sometimes change. Family Support Groups are always free and open to the community. Support groups provide families and caregivers with the emotional support and education they need to better understand Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Support groups are designed for families and friends. Attendance is not recommended for persons with dementia. Our volunteer support group facilitators receive specialized training about Alzheimer’s disease and group facilitation techniques, as well as ongoing support and evaluation. Solicitation of support group facilitators and members to promote specific products and services is not permitted. Sparta Police: Traffic Stop Yields Hundreds of Empty Heroin Packets

SPARTA, NJ – A Long Valley resident was found to have hundreds of empty wax packets used to hold heroin when he was stopped for having an expired inspection sticker.  Sparta Police Officer Thomas Snyder stopped a gray Honda Accord on December 4 around 9:50 a.m. on Route 15, police report.

Sparta Police: Vernon Man Hits a Curb, Gets DWI

SPARTA, NJ – A Vernon man has been charged with driving while intoxicated after he hit a curb and disabled his Jeep.  On November 30 around 11;20 p.m. Sparta Police Officer Ericks Finley found the Robert Houdershieldt, 44, sitting in his Grand Cherokee on the Route 15 southbound ramp, police say.
