SPARTA, NJ -  Does  your dog have muddy paws?  Soon there will be a new in Sparta place to bring your pup to get cleaned up.  Muddy Pawz is getting ready to open in the building next to Talbots. Owners Sam Paul and her mom Karen cannot wait to greet their first furry clients.

For Sam Paul the new shop is the culmination of a journey that began when she was 16, when she first began working in a kennel.  Paul worked her way up and has been grooming dogs for more 10 years.  She has also taught dog grooming at the Clip Shoppe School of Grooming, educating dozens of groomers during her tenure.

With the support and help of her family, the shop is taking shape.  While getting a tour of the newly painted shop, Paul’s passion and knowledge is evident.  She has put thought into everything from the size of the tubs to a double set of doors to ensure there are no accidental escapees and the color of the walls - "bright teal to make it light and happy."

She points out a quiet room for "older dogs and nervous dogs who may become frightened by noise and a small wash tubs for small dogs so they do not feel overwhelmed in a big tub."

The loving details are even evident in her logo, hand drawn by an artist just for her new business.

Paul has a pair of huskies at home; Lacey raised from a puppy and Wallace, a 12 year old rescue that recently joined her family.

While she lives in Jefferson, Paul has many happy memories of growing up in and around Sparta, boating with her cousins on Lake Mohawk, enjoying ice cream in town and even celebrating the signing of her lease for Muddy Pawz at Krogh’s Restaurant.

Throughout the summer she has been tossing balls and frisbees to dogs she sees in Sparta, promoting Muddy Pawz.  Patrons of her shop will be offered bathing, grooming, de-matting, nail clipping, ear cleaning and more.  The shop will have a variety of treats and toys as well.

The shop is conveniently located in the center of Sparta with the back parking lot away from Sparta Avenue traffic.  Paul is expecting to open Muddy Pawz at 25 Sparta Avenue in early October.

The shop will be open:

  • Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Thursday from 1 to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
