SPARTA, NJ – It was their second shopping day on Saturday.  Sparta High School juniors Bhavika Dawar and Jamie Rubin purchased five carts packed full to donate to the Sparta Ecumenical Food Pantry.

The two have been raising money through a GoFundMe page to be able to purchase food from the Stop and Shop where Dawar works.  So far the two have raised $6,976.

“We know we can get to $10,000,” Dawar said.

The pair took on the project when school was canceled. The duo said having this mission has made it a bit easier missing so much of their senior year.

The Sparta Ecumenical Food Pantry is open on Wednesday and Friday for food pickup.  The director Valerie Machio said she appreciated what the girls were doing. “It’s great to see the younger people acknowledge the need and helping out.”
