SPARTA, NJ – The board of education has scheduled a special meeting to change the district’s attorney. On Monday, February 10 the board will first go to executive session beginning at 7 and return to public session at 7:30 p.m according to the business office.
According to the agenda, once they return into open session the board members will be voting on appointing the law firm Schenck, Price, Smith & King LLP. They will also vote to accept the resignation of Rodney T. Hara, long time district counsel.
Schenck, Price, Smith & King has offices in Sparta, Florham Park, Paramus and New York according to their website.
The board of education has been discussing legal counsel since the reorganization meeting on January 6. Board members had voted to eliminate the second board counsel John Comegno of the Comegno Law Group PC.
Also at the reorganization meeting new leadership, with support from a majority of the board members, asked Business Administrator Pam Hinman to open a Request for Proposal or RFP for legal services.
During the discussion at the January 6 meeting, Hinman said districts should go out for an RFP for legal counsel every three years though Superintendent Michael Rossi did not recommend the move.
The board had a committee to review the top applicants to make their selection.
The only other item on the agenda is Board Liaisons. The public will also have a chance to speak at the meeting the will be held at the Mohawk Avenue School.
