SPARTA, NJ – Sparta school district has given notice that Superintendent Michael Rossi’s contract will be on the agenda of the October 28 meeting for approval. The terms of his current contract do not expire until June 30, 2020.
According to the public notice, Rossi’s contract has already had a review by the Executive County Superintendent Rosalie Lamone, as required by policy and statute. Business Administrator Pam Hinman’s notice said Lamonte gave her approval of the terms of the new contract on September 9.
Rossi’s contract negotiation is not mentioned on any committee meeting minutes, nor has it been discussed at a public meeting.
The current salary in Rossi’s contract is $167,500 with the opportunity to have a merit bonus worth up to 14.99% of his salary or $25,108.25.
State statute N.J.A.C. 18A:11-11 sets the notification requirements for amending, extending, renegotiating or altering the contract. The public is to be given 30 days notice as well as a 10 day hearing before the board can take action on the contract.
In July Governor Murphy signed a law removing the nine year old superintendent salary caps.
The next board of education meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 23 at 7:30 p.m. Both the September and October meetings are scheduled to be held at Mohawk Avenue School and are open to the public.
