SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta Board of Education will be holding two Special Meeting in April  The first is scheduled for Monday, April 13 at 7 p.m. According to an announcement by Business Administrator Pam Hinman, the board of education members will be discussing proposed edits to the preliminary school district budget.

The meeting will be held remotely and a link will be provided to the public, according to the announcement from Hinman. The announcement said action may be taken. The initial preliminary budget had been voted on at the March meeting.  Many board members had questions about priorities in the spending package.  

The April 29 meeting will also include the budget hearing, prior to the vote on the finalized budget.

The second special meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Mohawk Avenue School to interview candidates for the vacant seat on the board of education. The announcement said the meeting will open at 6:30 p.m. and then board members will go into executive session to conduct the interviews until 7:30 p.m.

The announcement said when they convene back into public session they will deliberate and select the new, temporary board member. 

The seat was vacated when Karen Scott resigned last month.  The seat will be on the November ballot. 

When the board of education members initially talked about the process to be used to fill the seat, they said they were going to hold the interviews in public.
