SPARTA, NJ – Sparta Middle School Principal Michael Gregory has announced the Students of the first marking period of the 2019-2020 school year.  The teachers of the three academic teams in each grade level recognized two students for their notable actions and contributions to the Sparta Middle School community.

Their teachers shared comments about the students chosen for the first marking period.

The sixth grade teams are Amber, Sapphire and Topaz.

The Amber team selected Patrick Bruseo and Paige Bunkers.

Patrick Bruseo is an exemplary student who exhibits all the attributes of good character. He is respectful and polite to his teachers and fellow students. He always gives 100% effort whether it be at school or on a wrestling mat. He is kind and caring to his fellow classmates. He takes responsibility to do the right thing even when no one is looking. The Amber Team is fortunate to have Patrick on the team. 

Paige Bunkers is a conscientious student who works hard. She comes to class with a positive attitude and a smile on her face. Paige is compassionate to others and goes out of her way to be considerate to all with whom she comes in contact. She's honest and kind and a pleasure to be around. The Amber Team teachers are happy to have Paige in our classes.

The Sapphire team selected Chase Spagnola and Amanda Torres.

Chase Spagnola is a hardworking and responsible young man who always tries his best in all of his classes. He has a love of learning and will seek out the work when he has been absent. He is kind and helpful toward others and is respectful to everyone. He is a strong role model for others and is a pleasure to have on the Sapphire Team. 

Amanda Torres is a hardworking young lady who rises to the challenges with which she is presented in each of her classes. She is kind and considerate to others and is very dependable. She demonstrates the student skills that others admire. She is a positive influence in class and is a real pleasure to have on the Sapphire Team. 

The Topaz team selected Olivia Dionisio and Josh Tolentino.

Olivia Dionisio is conscientious and a hard worker. She consistently puts forth her best effort. She is polite, considerate, and enters the room every day with a smile on her face. 

Josh Tolentino has a quiet but noticeable presence in the room. He consistently impresses with his creativity and engagement in learning. His willingness to help others in need is what makes him a Topaz Team Student of the Marking Period.

The seventh grade teams are Diamond, Garnet and Ruby.

The Diamond team selected Ryan Amato and Remmi Joustra.

Ryan Amato is unfailingly conscientious in everything he does, exemplifying commitment and perseverance. He brings his A-game to all aspects of school, tackling each challenge with a steadfast dedication that is reflected in his many successes. Ryan takes academic challenges in his stride as he conquers each task. His quiet strength and integrity are an inspiration to all those around him. Ryan is a Diamond Team student that makes us all proud. 

Remmi Joustra is a dedicated student. She works hard, is determined, and takes pride in her learning. She focuses in on the task at hand, and has a genuine commitment to her studies. She takes on challenges with a “never-give-up” approach. Remmi is always willing to participate, ask questions, and share her positivity with those around her. She is also kind, helpful and respectful to others. The Diamond Team is lucky to have Remmi as a member.

The Garnet team chose Braden Schappert and Emma Westervelt.

Braden Schappert is a polite and friendly young man with a wonderful sense of humor. He works hard and is always willing to help others. He plays baseball and would love to continue doing so as he gets older. Braden brings a smile each and every day to our wing. He is a well respected addition to the Garnet Team. 

Emma Westerverlt brings a very caring and kind demeanor to our classes in the Garnet wing. She is always willing to help others. She is hardworking and very conscientious. She has a goal of working in the science field, perhaps as a veterinarian or a marine biologist. Emma is a tremendous addition to the Garnet Team. 

The Ruby team Emily Ciaburri and Patrick Connors.

Emily Ciaburri is an extremely hard-working and focused individual who strives for high marks in her academics. She brings a smile and positive attitude to each day and her teachers appreciate it. She is VERY respectful of her Ruby Team teachers and consistently demonstrates the 6 Pillars of Character. Her educators also commend her cheerful spirit and ability to work with anyone she is paired up with. The RUBY TEAM is thrilled to acknowledge Emily for this well-deserved recognition! Congratulations. 

Patrick Connors is an outstanding student to have in class. He is always prepared, eager to learn, and polite to everyone. He is extremely dedicated to his academics and works well in a variety of education settings. The RUBY TEAM teachers are proud of all the hard work and effort he puts forth in each of his academic courses. As a Team, we are fortunate to teach Patrick every day. Congratulations.

The eighth grade teams are Emerald, Jade and Pearl.

The Emerald team selected Rocco Gorvan and Sarah Weisbeck.

Rocco Gorvan has a great attitude and a very strong work ethic. He is an avid reader and brings a terrific sense of humor to everything he does. 

Sarah Weisbeck is intellectually curious in her academic classes. She works well with her classmates and leads by example. She is conscientious and thoughtful.

The Jade team chose Patrick Dunn and Surekha Selvaraj.

Patrick Dunn is a young man who sets an excellent example for his peers on the Jade Team through his conscientious and respectful behavior. He is driven to improve and recognizes that the only way to do so is to set lofty goals and work towards achieving them. He also goes out of his way to be kind and supportive of the students he encounters -not just his closest: are proud to give this award to Patrick.

Surekha Selvaraj is extremely self-motivated and goes above and beyond the minimum requirements because of her own desire to learn and succeed. She has a clear sense of right and wrong and uses those strong convictions to make the best choices. We are lucky to have this young lady on our team. The Jade Team teachers are proud to give the student of the marking period award for the first marking period to Surekha.

The Pearl team chose Eugene Donnelly and Dana Dunbar.

Eugene Donnelly is the Pearl Team student of the first marking period. Gene has consistently demonstrated a very strong work ethic in class and out. He participates actively and has great ideas that we look forward to hearing more of. He is focused on reaching his goals and we expect him to have great success this year. 

Dana Dunbar is the Pearl Team student of the first marking period. Dana has been a stand out student since day one. She is respectful to teachers and peers and works well with any group. She goes out of her way to extend her learning beyond the classroom. We're excited to witness her growth and progress this year and to hear of her future success in high school.
