SPARTA, NJ – Bill Greenlaw and Dean Blumetti have officially announced their joint-effort to run for Sparta Township Council in 2020. Greenlaw and Blumetti have pledged to serve residents with honesty, integrity, and transparency. This dedicated team with vast experience has affirmed their priority to listen and work alongside the community, to focus on fiscal accountability and to ensure much-needed progress for all of their neighbors within their shared Sparta community.

“The core values of an effective representative include honesty, integrity, and transparency,” says Bill Greenlaw. Greenlaw was previously the School Director and Board President at Delaware Valley School District in Milford, PA as well as a current Trustee and one term President of the Lake Mohawk Country Club. “I am proud of my efforts to increase the amount of information that is readily accessible through websites and have encouraged setting up social media platforms for these organizations as a way to facilitate the ability of citizens to ask questions and find answers. I will always advocate for pursuing continuous and enhanced improvement for meaningful community engagement.

Bill believes transparency is vital to creating trust between the community and its leaders. Bill is also passionate about environmental responsibility. It has led him to serve on the Lake Committee of the LMCC organization as a commitment to manage our environmental resources conscientiously.

Explaining his reason for pursuing a seat on the Sparta council, Bill says, “I believe the most important job in a democracy is that of a citizen and that is why I will continuously work to improve each citizen’s ability to do their job well.”

Furthermore, Greenlaw has held a deep fondness for Sparta since his youth when he lived and attended high school in nearby Roxbury Township. Bill went on to obtain a Chemical Engineering degree from Clarkson University whose motto is “A workman that needeth not be ashamed.” His career opportunities have led him to hold positions in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and food industries. He returned to the area in 2000 and continued to be a regular visitor to Sparta while raising his three young children as a single-parent and simultaneously being the sole caregiver for his own parents in their later years.

In 2013, Greenlaw officially made the decision to set down roots and call Sparta his home. “Society has changed tremendously in my lifetime. Most people are looking for that community feel, where you have walkable neighborhoods with local shops and restaurants. Development needs to enhance the community feeling, which increases property values and enhances the lives of residents. We need to balance sensible development with environmental responsibility, and Dean and I are the people to make this happen.”

Dean Blumetti is eager to serve on the Sparta Township Council. Dean and his wife of 20 years, Janet, have been proud residents of Sparta since 2015. Dean, similarly to Bill, cherishes the unique blend of Sparta’s charming small-town feel, safety, and top schools -- all amongst the surrounding nature and beautiful scenery.

“I want to ensure that we will always be able to take pride in our town. I will serve with integrity, transparency, respect, and open communication. I believe my thorough, independent-minded approach and my goal to find common ground with all residents will be greatly beneficial. The Sparta community will be well-informed, and voices will be heard.”

Dean has served on Sparta’s Environmental Commission since 2019, advocating for the preservation and protection of our natural resources, while balancing the desire for appropriate, smart growth. For the past four years, Dean has been the Conservation Chair and on the Board of Directors for the Northern New Jersey chapter of Trout Unlimited, based here in Sparta for over 50 years. Trout Unlimited is a 60-year old nationwide non- profit with over 300,000 members focused on conserving and restoring streams and watersheds.

Dean has had the pleasure of being involved in community events, including the Youth Trout Derby, Sparta’s free “Fly Fishing 101” summer course, Sparta Day, township Flag Day and 9/11 Remembrance ceremonies. Furthermore, Dean dedicated significant time to Trout Unlimited’s Sparta Glen Brook restoration and led the “Sparta Glen Fall Fun Day” anniversary celebration event. Dean has volunteered and collaborated frequently with organizations such as the SCMUA Wallkill River Watershed Management Group and The Nature Conservancy.

Dean holds a graduate degree in Business (MBA) from New York University’s Stern School of Business, and an undergraduate degree in Economics from Drew University. Dean’s professional career has included investment management, organizational improvement, strategy consulting, and healthcare innovation. Dean has recently transitioned his career, shifting his focus to his true passion for Conservation, Corporate Responsibility, and Sustainability. In his free time, Dean enjoys exploring the outdoors and is an avid fly fisherman.

“My experiences, community involvement, and education have prepared me extremely well to represent our community. I would be grateful for their support, and look forward to the honor of serving as their Sparta Township Councilman.”

Bill Greenlaw and Dean Blumetti are passionate about building a stronger Sparta community and look forward in anticipation to offering their neighbors their unique blend of talents.
