CHICAGO, IL - Sparta High School alumna is excited to run in her first Chicago marathon. On October 13 Sara Lucas will join thousands of other runners in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
Lucas is running on the ChiParks team raising money for the city parks. She has some good friends that live in the city so she decided to join the effort to support more than 600 parks, 24 beaches, 11 museums, nine golf courses and 10 harbors according to her gofundme page.
Lucas’ passion for preserving the planet runs the gamut from reducing use of plastic to only buying cloths second hand. The ChiParks Foundations brings together two of her favorite things; running and conservation. Even in high school, Lucas did not just run track, she graduated with 12 Varsity Letters for competing in cross country, indoor and outdoor track. And she has been running ever since.

At FIT she studied Fashion Merchandising and Management and continued to earn accolades for her work the track team. She earned two MVP awards, a VIP award, a Coach’s Award, Student Athlete of the Year 2016 as well as All American status in both cross county and track. As a junior and senior, Lucas was a student coach as well.
During her time at FIT she ran in three half marathons; one in Italy while studying abroad in Florence. Lucas graduated in 2018 with an associate’s degree in Fashion Merchandising, a bachelor’s degree in Advertising Marketing Communication with a minor in Economics.
She has raised $1250 of her $1750 goal. Donations can be made through her gofundme page
