SPARTA, NJ-Students and staff members of Sparta High School are again going bald to raise money for childhood cancer research.  This year’s St. Baldrick's event will be dedicated to Melanie DiDomizio, a Sparta High School junior who recently lost her long battle with cancer, according to event organizer and teacher Gerard Carter.

At the board of education meeting Superintendent Michael Rossi announced the initiative will take place on Saint Patrick’s Day.  Rossi said, “Local barbers and stylists are donating their time and scissors.”

Principal Ronnie Spring said anyone is welcome to donate to the cause but participation is limited to district students and staff. Carter said there are already six "shavees" and they are lobbying for more.

According to event organizer Gerald Carter more than $6000 has been raised. Website: For more information and to donate.
