SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta Police Department will continue their food collection on Sunday at the Sparta Stop and Shop and ShopRite.  Joining with law enforcement agencies throughout the county, Sparta officers will be Cramming the Cruiser with items for the Sussex County Food Pantry.

On Saturday Sparta officers filled shopping carts with donations of food and frozen turkeys outside the ShopRite and the Stop and Shop, including from two youngsters who told the officers "Happy Thanksgiving," after handing over bags of food.

Food pantry volunteers and officers will be collecting food donations at the Shop Rite stores in Sparta, Byram, Franklin and Newton on Sunday, November 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Sparta Stop and Shop on Sunday, November 24 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Requested donations:

  • Turkeys, hams – fresh or frozen,
  • Peanut butter and jelly,
  • Meals in a can – Beefaroni, Beef Stew, Chili, Spaghettos
  • Tuna or protein in a can
  • Cereal,
  • Mac and cheese,
  • Spaghetti and tomato sauce,
  • Hearty soups,
  • Canned vegetables,
  • Canned fruit,
  • Instant potatoes/rice,
  • Pancake mix,
  • Gravy/stuffing,
  • Kid friendly snacks – granola bars, fruit snacks
  • Baby food,
  • Any non-perishable food that you would feed your family,
  • Personal Hygiene products – shampoo, toothpaste, soap
  • Pet food
