SPARTA, NJ – This year in addition to ribbons on the lamp posts on Main Street, the Sparta Town Hall has also been Turned Teal for Ovarian Cancer awareness month.  At the August meeting Andrew Lopez accepted a proclamation from Mayor Molly Whilesmith recognizing Ovarian Cancer Awareness month.

This is the 10 year the Lopez family has participated in the Turn the Town Teal initiative as part of their unending campaign to support the Janice Lopez Ovarian Cancer Foundation.  The family holds smaller events throughout the year, culminating in the Teal Night for Life in June. The New Jersey based Turn the Town Teal initiative is now in every state as well as other countries and territories according to Lopez.

“Awareness and support is growing,” Lopez said.  “Awareness in important and education is power.  Every year we tie the ribbons as a conversation starter.”
