ALLAMUCHY, NJ – Sparta Police Lt. John Lamon joined more than 300 people in a walk held at Waterloo Village on October 6. The Northwest New Jersey Out of the Darkness Walk was organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
A part of Team Chris, Lamon said he walked “in remembrance of his son’s best friend Chris and to support Chris’ family as well as those affected by the loss of a loved one.”
According to Elizabeth Clemens, NJ Area Director and Tracy Klingener, Walk Chair, more than $55,700 was raised so far. Donations will be accepted through December 31. The organization has walks in all 50 states according to their website.
They said the money helps to bring programs such as Talk Saves Lives, It’s Real and Safe Talk into communities. They are working to reduce the suicide rate 20% by 2025.
“One life lost is too much,” Lamon said.
